Hi BAMers! The January BAM members’ meeting is nearly upon us and will be held on this Thursday from 7-9p at Faction Brewing in Alameda. This month’s talk will be by Jon Sheehan on the next SOQ topic, which is select Scotch and Irish Ales. These styles were the most underrepresented at last year’s World Cup competition, so we’re putting the challenge to you to brew your best beers and win this category! Judging will be integrated into World Cup, and the details for this along with the relevant dates will be talked about at the meeting and posted on the BAM website.

End of Year Holiday Party – 2016-12-10
Hey BAMers! This year’s club holiday party will once again be at Faction Brewing on Saturday, December 10th from 2-6pm. This will take place of the usual Thursday meeting for the month. We’ll be setting up the party at the back of the brewery, so please park in the “rear” of the building, which is the parking lot right next to the street. We should have the door on that side propped open and marked with a sign for the party.
This is a potluck, so please bring food and beer to share with your fellow homebrewers. All ages are welcome, but obviously only 21+ year olds can drink alcohol. We will also setup power strips etc in case anyone wants to bring crockpots to keep dishes warm.
Lastly, once again this year we will be doing the Q4 SOQ judging at the holiday party by popular vote! This SOQ category is Old Ales/Stock Ales/Winter Warmers. We will have the tap board setup along with a couple of other picnic taps, but since we had such a large number of kegs last year, please bring your own dispensing equipment if you have some. It’s better to have more than we need as opposed to scrambling to be able to serve everyone’s beers. When you arrive, each BAM member will get votes for their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd best choices, which you can use to vote for your favorite beers in the competition. This means that the earlier that you arrive to the party with your entry, the greater the chance that you’ll have to get people’s votes. We’ll then tally the results up around 5p, and the winners will receive gift certificates for Oak Barrel.
If you have any questions about the party, food, drink, or the competition, please let any of the other officers know. We hope to see everyone there!

November Member Meeting – 2016/11/10
Hey BAMers! This is your monthly reminder that the BAM members’ meeting for this month is on Thursday, Nov 10th, at 7pm at Faction Brewing in Alameda. Unfortunately, Nate Smith had to reschedule his presentation for next spring, so we will instead be featuring an updated talk about Sanitation and Cleaning for Brewing by our very own Paul Keefer. Please bring a glass and beer to share with your fellow homebrewers.
Also, since it’s getting to be that time of year again, we will be selling BAM hoodies at this month’s meeting. We won’t be able to reserve any hoodies or sell them outside of this month’s meeting (although we probably will be selling hoodies at the Xmas party as well), so if you’d like to buy one, either attend the meeting on Thursday or have someone else that is attending purchase one for you instead.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact any of the officers.Materials from the meeting: -
October Member Meeting – 10/13/2016
This month’s BAM members’ meeting will be this Thursday, October 13th, from 7-9p at Faction Brewing in Alameda. Matt Youngblut will be giving a simplified talk on Alcohols, Acids, and Esters in Beer. This is a huge topic in brewing/fermentation, so he hopes to be able to explain these compounds in terms of what they are, where they come from, and what they taste like. As always, please bring a glass and beer to share.
Please let any of the officers know if you have any questions, and we hope to see you there.

Hey BAMers! The BAM August Members’ Meeting is this Thursday, August 11th, from 7-9pm at Faction Brewing in Alameda. We will be featuring a talk by Mike “Tasty” McDole on Quick Turnaround Lagers. I’m sure that there will be a lot of great info on how to make beers in a few weeks that normally take months!
In addition to the presentation, we will also be holding the silent auction of Lee Shepard’s rare beers from his cellar. Proceeds will be going to his estate and to help out future BJCP classes held in Lee’s memory. More information can be found at https://www.bayareamashers.org/lee-shephard-bottle-auction/.
Lastly, if you haven’t done so, please pay your dues! People that have not paid their dues will be removed from the mailing list very soon. The easiest way to pay your dues is by going to bayareamashers.org/join and pay via PayPal or Square.
Please let any of the officers know if you have any questions, and we hope to see everyone there!

June Member Meeting – 06/09/2016
This month’s meeting will be held on June 9th, same bat-time, same bat-place.
(Faction Brewing, 7:30PM with social half hour before)This month we’ll have a special guest. Alex Tweet of Fieldwork Brewing will be coming to talk about his stouts, what he’s doing differently, what makes a stout good or bad. He’ll be bringing some examples of his work, and I think we’ll also have some other commercial beers selected to talk about in addition to his. We’d hoped to have this talk for our SOQ, but it will be worth the wait.
Bring a glass and bring some beer to share. If you have a beer you’d like some feedback on, by all means bring those for the feedback table.
